Learning how to print - resource recommendations

4 years 3 weeks ago #677763 by Tunesmith
Hope it's okay to ask this here.
I'm not new to photography really.  Not an expert by any means, but getting better all the time.  I do a lot of landscape/outdoors photography.  So far I haven't had many of my photos printed because frankly I don't understand how to take a digital photo and make it fit a certain frame size; say an 11X14 without having to crop off some of the best parts.
I was hoping that some of you could suggest some resources - tutorials, etc., where I could get a better grasp of this.  I've looked on YouTube and searched the Internet, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for which leads me to believe me that I'm wording my queries wrong...or something.
Anyway, any guidance that you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.

They say an artist needs to not only create the art or photograph but print & frame the art/photo themselves. I've been able to create the art/photo just not handle the printing or framing aspect. One thing I've found that helps is never stay within a particular size bracket. If one feels the size of you print doesn't fall into a typical size range, don't fret.

A couple of sites that help me visualize what a framed print will look like, Is Aaron Brothers & Shutterfly even the Walmart photo site has an option that allows you to upload images and select the best suited print size or frame. Aaron Brothers site is one of the best to see this sizing cause they allow for custom sizes.

If you're talking about actually doing the printing yourself, this will be very expensive because of the printing equipment needed. However, I would avoid places like Office depot or staples for large size prints without framing. So far Aaron Bother & Micheal's have been printing clear quality images, but haven't excelled in the framing area or at least having with the last order I did with them.

I think at some point I need to test some of the major online printers to see which has the best image quality and return with my results.
