Sigma 30mm f/1.4 on crop sensor camera to get close to 50mm?

I'm guessing 30mm on my Nikon D300 will get me closest to a true 50mm correct? What I'd like to know is how is this Sigma brand 30mm f/1.4? Anyone try this lens for the purpose of getting close to a 50mm lens factoring in the cameras crop sensor?

No a 30mm FF/Film lens would give a 45mm field of view on a cropped sensor. As where a 35mm is 52.5 mms on the D300. What you have to decide is if you want a slightly narrower or larger field.

Well the OP did say "close to" and 45mm is close enough.

I'd recommend the 35 1.8 over the Sigma myself. It's sharper and the bokeh isn't too bad. The Sigma is less sharp, but the bokeh is better. HOWEVER the 35 1.8 is probably Nikon's best value DX lens.

I'm going with a Fringer adapter for my Fuji X and the EFS 30 f1.4 art. It's a great standard lens. Can focus closely and is good from 1.4 for close up (better at f2). Lots of people mention that Fuji has lots of lenses etc but they are by and large pricy but good. In some instances the newer Canon lenses are better than the first iteration of Fuji lenses even adapted. The AF is better. My 60 mm macro refused to focus on the first attempt in a lot of cases also the 35 1.4 while being excellent is slow on the focus side and has soft edges. The Fringer adapter allows the use of a wide variety of Canon glass with excellent AF function intact and aperture control. The Fringer itself has no glass and therefore no quality reduction. I left this comment on this old thread in the thought that it might be useful.

45 to 52,5 is pretty close… I don't think there
could be a perceivable difference.

Thirty is thirty on crop or FF, its just a different field of view.

Why so serious?
