Nikon D5300 Red Light

9 years 6 days ago #434853 by captesq
Hi.

I have been using Nikon Cameras since Minolta ended. Up to know it hasn't been an issue, but as my nieces and nephew get older and more involved in indoor activities it is becoming a problem. the issue is the red light that goes off prior to the camera taking a shot. I assume it is a meter or autofocus tool. My question is this, is there a way to shut it off? For instance, if I switch to full manual will it go away?

Thanks

That would be the "AF-assist illuminator" and yes, you can turn it off.

Just download the product manual as a PDF, search for "assist" and you find on page 185 that when you press the Menu button it is on the Custom Settings menu (item a3).
