Nikon D810 - Exploiting the Pro's and Con's

8 years 10 months ago #443333 by Roger3006
I shoot a D800 for product photography, in particular firearms.  The detail is great.  Files are large but today's computers are fast enough to easily deal with them.  I really like the camera.

I plan on buying a D810 in the near future.  I do not think it will make any significant difference in my studio; however, I do feel it will be more user friendly for outdoor photography whether it be people, dogs, wildlife or landscapes.  My backup is currently a D7100 which I plan on selling.  I feel the D7100 is a nice body but after shooting a full frame D800 it is hard to me to be satisfied with anything in the DX format.

FYI-it only takes about one second to transfer the D800 file from my camera to my computer shooting tethered.  It does take Lightroom a few seconds to render the file.

Hope this is helpful.

Roger

I'll be upgrading to this camera next month. Limited con's IMO. 36MP will be a dream to shoot with.

Main limitations to me are the need for a powerful enough computer to handle the large files & having plenty of storage space to store them. Oh, having to have up to date editing software as well... All easily overcome with sufficient funds...

I upgraded from D700 ( which I will never part with ) to the 810 . I can honestly say the only drawback might be its unforgiving nature , you must have good technique as well as decent glass to shoot this body . Aside from that I find no real drawback . Great detail , awesome dynamic range , frame rate ok for me , If i need faster gripped d700 comes off the bench . My 2 cents .

I also went D700 to D800. I ALSO will NOT be selling my still dependable D700. I also own a D7100 and at times it being smaller and lighter is a nice thing, and resolution doesn't suffer much compared to the D800. Its very competent. I like my current set up and won't be upgrading anything in the foreseeable future....

Why so serious?
