I'm so close to buying this lens.  Can any of you give me that final nudge of advice that would help me make my decision?

It's an investment, so I want to know I'm making a good decision.  Thank you.

Benny

Buy it. It's one of their best. You can never go wrong with good glass.

You won't be disappointed, the 70-200mm is a work horse and most likely will become your favorite lens!

Oh yes, you are looking at an incredible lens!  I recommend this lens and then some.  I'm a Canon guy, but have used the Nikon version of this lens many times.  A good friend of mine has this lens.  He has a D4 and D800 that I have used too.

It's not an investment. It's a tool. A very, very good tool.

You don't indicate what type of photography you do, or whether you need f/2.8 (vs. f/4), or whether the original model is a candidate vs. the latest. More context would be helpful.

All that said, I love mine and never regret for a moment the outlay. Of course, I got mine 2nd-hand from someone with more money than sense, and it was in pristine (almost unused) condition. CL can be your friend.

Just sayin'.

I disagree, it's an investment, and a dang good one imo

Perhaps its an investment into a good tool & as long as the tool does the job...

I don't have it, nor do I need it. I do have the 80-200mm F2.8 D ED IF which suffices for my needs at a lot less money. Only you can decide whether or not you need this lens. For most people, it's overkill. That said, it is a really great lens with good features, but unless you intend to make a lot of large prints or have commercial jobs, other lenses may fit the bill.... Try renting one & see.

Its the only lens I don't have I'd seriously like, other than a 600 f/4 or 800 f/4. Heavy, but that usually means good......;)

Why so serious?
