D800 back

I sent my over two year old D800 to Nikon last month for repair of a "err" message. Had to wait a few days for a part. Just received it back and I must say, WELL DONE, Nikon repair. They replaced all rubber, updated firmware, cleaned mirror box, viewfinder, sensor, battery door and a few other little things at NO additional cost. My camera was returned to me in an almost new condition, certainly refurbished. Just needed to post a positive on an often maligned department......

Why so serious?

Don't they have 2 locations?  Which one did yours go too?  I've heard mixed reviews from others on having their camera serviced with Nikon.  Well good for you!

Eastern repair, Melville New York. I've always had good service, but the communication is nearly non existent.....:whistle:
The westerners have to send to El Segundo, I've heard mixed reviews.....

Why so serious?

Now I know where to send mine if things go astray.  That's awesome they did all that extra stuff.  Wondering if they're stepping up because of the complaints they've had lately about Customer Service?

When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk

Possibly, but I've usually had good luck with Melville. It seems (I could be wrong) most complaints come from the El Segundo center.....:dry:

I have a licensed repair center about 8 minutes from me. I'm one of the lucky ones.:kmonst:

I am fairly close to a "licensed" center as well, but fairly close to Melville too. Its a one day drop to delivery via UPS and I feel better about Nikon handling my repairs....;)

If it's a major repair or a recall, always best to go with the big boys.

You are correct that it is El Segundo that has been the problem child.  I know people in Kali that will send theirs to Melville even though it takes longer to ship.

I got some sand in my 24-70 f/2.8G lens.   They cleaned it up quite nice at my local authorized repair center.  It's nice for smaller things like that.

I've dropped my 70-200 from a few feet up onto hard concrete. It has some scratches and marks on the body of the lens.
