VR II is a lot sharper by has focus breathing.

When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

Personally I would not do it strictly for the newer VR. The only VR lens I have is the 80-400 AF, and the only reason I would upgrade it is if it got destroyed, or quit working. I would get the newer version solely for the AF-S, and not the VR upgrade. I barely use my VR as it is since I use a tripod most of the time.

My own usage and pretty much everybody using the lens.
