Light pollution filter for Nikon cameras?

I originally saw this on Nikon Rumors website.  Any of you pick one of these up or know anything about it?

Is it legit?

Not for me, I can get to somewhat dark areas without ruining my camera.

Why so serious?

Not for me either. Seems it's targeted at Astrophotography only & I don't do that.

:agree:

Yeah what could go wrong here? Lets see. You are dropping in a clip on filter over your cameras sensor filter/protector. I do not see a problem with that at all. I do not think so. You are better off getting a 2 inch LP filter for a telescope, and somehow adapting it to one of your lenses. Oh! Also I might add you lose like somewhere in the 1.5 to 3 stops using them.

Can see many people screwing up their sensor with the adding and removing of this thing.  I wouldn't touch this thing.

Yeah, and I think they make filters for telescopes that do similar, not sure if they are adaptable.

I rarely even clean the sensor (filter in front), I'd be very leery....

They only come in 3 sizes last time I looked. .96, 1.25, and 2 inches. They also are called nebula filters since they enhance some of the nebulae out there.

$1600 to potentially harm my camera's sensor? I think I'll pass

Too true, I'd look at anything to filter from the front of lens, but not the sensor area....

If it attached the the lens, I would try it.  Attaching to your sensor?  Man, there are some dense people out there that I can see destroying their cameras putting this on and off.

I wouldn't think wrecking the sensor, but the added possibility for contaminants (dust) is enough to scare me off....

The clip filter sits on the cavity in between the flange of the lens and is a few centimeters away from the sensor. It's also very very difficult to drop the filter onto the sensor since the filter is made to fit the cavity.
