Nikon D3400 or Canon Rebel T6?

So i'm going into the Navy and my job is on the flight deck of a carrier. I'd absolutely love to document my travels as i'm deployed and take pictures of the sunset, aircraft (landing and taking off), while i pull into port, etc. The most thing that matters to me is the quality of the photo, i'm just not sure which camera to pick. Someone please help!

Go to a store (Best Buy, at least?) and pick them up and use them. See which feels better in your hands, which system makes sense to you, and let that be your guide. Also consider Sony products.

The camera you want is the one you don't want to put down.

You'll also want to look into a class to help you jumpstart your knowledge of the system you choose. So do all of this before you leave.

Also suggest a 35mm f/1.8 lens, no matter which system, so that you have some fast glass at some point. Perhaps not right away, but someday.

I would be very surprised if the flight deck officer lets you go bopping around the deck sporting a DSLR. I would do this with a compact or small mirrorless.

You'll really want to handle both cameras and make a personal decision on which feels best to you.

Plus, I must say, I'm rather bias to the Nikon  ;)

I'm also biased, but EITHER is a good pick

Either one is good for a beginner who is unsure if they will pursue the hobby, but both lack features of more upscale models.

I'm a Canon gal, but I just got the D3400 for my husband, he loves the camera.

Really??   How so, Canon especially has a ton of glass for this I thought?

Man, I must be losing it.

We're talking about kit lenses. They're limited in speed and IQ. Simple fact. They are, however, good starting points until you figure out what you want to shoot.

Then everyone pretty much suggests a 50mm f/1.8. Inexpensive, fast, better IQ.

EF lenses can not be compared to Canon "L" glass. They are fine for starters, but you don't see many pros using them....That's a limitation.
