First off, this lens is SICK!!!

Not sure I would drop $12500 for it.

I have no idea who this lens is marketed to.

The 200-500 is a tenth the cost and well received. For that cash I'd have a 600 f/4.

Yeah, I saw the ad for that last night. I, too, do not understand who this is marketed to. Nor do I see $13K in value, nor any value at all. For the distances this lens would be used for, that f/4 aperture doesn't seem to buy a lot, and (as stated above) the 200-500 is at a much more accessible price point. Heck, for the difference you could almost have a second camera with the 200-400 f/4 on it.

I don't get it.

Nikon released this lens at CES, perhaps vanity move.  Because no one is going to spend that kind of money on a lens!

Cut that price in half and maybe.  Just my 2 cents.

Not something I would buy. Even if I could afford one.

I'll take "um, incorrect" for $200, Alex.

If a product is needed to do a job, and pays for itself, then its cost is, by definition, acceptable. That's why the discussion here is about "who is this for?" Yes, it's spendy, but I'm still not seeing a product line gap that was filled by this. It's more likely a technology statement because of the integrated teleconverter (their first like this, no?). And they may be testing to waters to find out if this type of technology/amalgam/frankenlens has any appeal to the buying public.

Sorry they are way out in left field on pricing to get into my wallet.  Don't get me wrong, it's a great lens, just way out of my budget.
