Nikon 16-35mm f/4 vs Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5

Putting aside the $300 difference between the Nikon 16-35mm f/4 and the lesser priced Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5.  Aside from the fixed aperture of f/4 with the 16-35mm and 2mm wider focal length, what would push you from one lens to the other for purchase?

I've been trying to make this decision for the last week and stuck.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

thanks!

I bought the 16-35 f/4 a few years ago based on the reviews and I couldn't be happier with that zoom. Some distortion at the short end fixable in post (ACR) with a click or two. Until I got my 20 f/1.8 it was my go to night lens as well as first out of the bag for landscapes.
Go to dpr where you can do a "side by side" comparison....

Why so serious?

The 18-35 suffers from distortion, and does not have good sharpness and contrast. I got rid of one many years ago, with no regrets. You might look at the 17-35 f/2.8 non-VR at KEH or on ebay for another possibility.

+1 I was going to say the same.  Not a good lens to have IMO.  Go with the 16-35mm.

Photographylife did a nice review of the newest version of the 18-35.  I have the old "D" model, which is not a great lens.  It performed reasonably well on a DX body but shows it shortcomings on a full frame sensor.  The newest 18-35G is supposed to be vastly improved, and appears to be, according to the review I read and linked to above.

Stay sharp,
Bob

The 16-35 is a very nice lens. It has a constant aperture. Everyone who has an opinion loves it, it seems.

Can't say the same about the other.

Done.
