Using film camera lenses on new digital body

G'day all

I have a neighbour with a Nikon 810 film camera plus 2 lenses - those lenses have a collection of AF / exposure terminals within.
My Q is ... will these lenses bolt onto a current entry-level Nikon body?  - or do I need to find out more to give him a better answer?

There is no such animal as a Nikon 810 film camera. If it is a Nikon AF film camera, then the lenses should fit & function with most Nikon DSLR's but not with the entry level models. Entry level models require a motor in the lens in order to focus. Older AF Nikon lenses need a focus motor in the body of the camera. The lenses will likely mount & meter, but not auto focus...

This....and I think he means a F-801, N8008 in America.

Why so serious?

I thought you can, but just lose auto focus because the older lenses are manual?

If the lenses are AF ( the camera is) then what I said above applies. If the lenses are MF, then there is no metering as well as well as no AF but the lenses will still mount and you will have to shoot entirely in manual.

G'day fellas

I was briefly shown the kit several days ago - took marginal interest in it as it is old clobber - but the owner has asked me for more via a phone call, so I can't handle the stuff to give a clear answer here & now. The kit is camera body + 2 lenses + flashgun + filters ... the sort of stuff I had back in film-camera days as well. Each lens has 8 or 10 electical contacts inside the bayonet mount, memory says there's an aperture ring and a focus ring and a zoom ring on each lens - tho how much is 'auto' operation I'm not sure

Personally I think he should junk the lot and start again, but it's stuff he used years ago and doesn't like the idea of tossing it away ... which I can understand, tho don't fully agree with

Manual lenses will provide metering both in manual and aperture priority modes.
