Nikon 50mm f/0.95 : Who wants this lens?

5 years 2 months ago #629062 by Roman Omell
I've been thinking here.  Both Nikon and Canon need to get the eye of the consumer market looking at them for their delays and loss of 'todays' market share in the mirrorless camera to Sony. Which means come out with products that turn heads.

While the 50mm f/0.95 is an amazing lens and has plenty of that 'WOW' factor, I just don't see it as needed as it would have been for the DSLR market.

I applaud them, but can't help to see nothing more than a PR move to be seen as an innovator.  I may be wrong, but I don't think there would be huge market for this lens.

Would you spend money on this lens?

Never!

It is not a money limitation but the results I get with the
ƒ 1.4 are stupendous enough and I am not to say yes to
everything just because it is feasible.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Folks will buy this for its unique rendering, that’s about it. To many, that’s enough though. To many, photography isn’t just about what’s necessary, it’s also about what’s unique, fun etc.

i have several tools and a lens that aren’t “needed”, but I really enjoy them and most make my photography “easier” at the same time, like cool flash mods and an 85mm 1.4, which I use for its rendering and great low light capabilities. Even though I didn’t “need” it, per say. I could have probably been ok with the 1.8, as it’s very sharp, but it’s just not quite the same.

A friend of mine who just picked up the Z7 was talking about the f/0.95 lens.  It's one heck of a lens, that's for sure.  As he pointed out, there's a big difference from a f/3.5 to a f/2.8 and from a f/2.8 to a f/1.8.  So f/0.95 would be a big difference from anything else.

Personally I just don't see the need for it.  However we all pick what we feel we need.

Eh, nice but wouldn't be something I would be running out to get.
