Nikon D500 won't shut off!

5 years 1 week ago #639862 by Deb Reardon
Well this isn't the start to my weekend I had hoped for.  I just bought a Nikon D500 to join my gear, actually to replace my D700 as the second camera body in my bag.

However the D500 just wont turn off.  Regardless of how many times I have switched on and off, the camera stays on.  I have tried everything I can think of, and the only way I have found to get it to shut off is by removing the battery.  I have reformatted my cards, recharged the battery, replaced the battery with completely different battery, yet same problem.

I'm at the point where I'm scratching my head and could really use some advice.

Thanks in advance.

Deb

I never heard of that before!!!

I could come up with these suggestions though…

Either keep on shooting or remove batteries. :P

Light is free… capturing it is not!

G'day Deb

As NS says - for the moment just take out the battery
However - you say that you've just bought the camera ... take it back to the seller and ask for an explanation & maybe a refund

You bought it new? Take it back. Bought it used? Take it back, if you can.

Or, try a factory reset (if you can find how to do that via a web search?)

What happened with this? I'm a bit curious, did you return it?

I've reasearched the D500 a ton the last 2 weeks after wanting to get it (got it yesterday, still can't decide if i should return it or not, got paranoid about weight bugging me lol) And I'm sure I came across others with this issue. And the latest firmware update for the D500 at NIkon download center list that this particular issue has been fixed. So it's not just you running into this problem.

And I just not realize that this was posted well before that firmware update came out recently lol.  Sorry for posting redundant info. But maybe it'll help someone else with the same problem in the future.

There is also some evidence that there is a timeout. But I've not seen confirmation of that.
