Are you using single focus point along with AF-C focus mode D7200?

I was hired to take some photos of people working out in a gym.  On this rowing machine, where this guy was rowing back and forth, I had the cameras AF area set to 51 points.  I have back button focus set up and I was holding it down and snapping away.  Looking at my shots afterwards, there are a number of these that are not sharp.  I have done some digging around Google and found a few speaking about using a single focus point and AF-C focus mode in these sort of shooting situations.

I'll be going back on Tuesday and really want to have better success.  Do you think shooting with single focus point and AF-C will work better?

You have 3D tracking on? And the camera set to not release the shutter unless it (thinks it) has acquired focus? Priority selection set to "Focus"? Lock-on duration set to short?

I shoot dance (ballet, etc), and use single-point, AF-C all the time. No problems here, other than motion blur on a dark stage :-/

Single focus point and AF-C will only make sense if the
BBF approach is used and the shutter AF disabled. This
is my setup on all bodies — when not working in studio.

Light is free… capturing it is not!
