Nikon D850 vs Z7 putting aside weight and video?

So when you aren't talking about body size or weight.  Video side of things and just still shots.

Are there any advantages to buying the Nikon Z7 vs the D850?

It depends upon whether you consider new technology an advantage. It depends upon whether you think the future of the Z mount is intriguing.

Sone consider an EVF a positive thing.

You didn't ask about other downsides, although there plenty of reviews out there to list those.

That D850 got such high review from all over. The Z7 didn't get as high colors across the board.

Well if 2 memory card slots are important, the D850 wins this one.   If IBIS is important, the D850 relies entirely on the optical stabilization of it's lenses, while the Z7 has impressive 5-axis stabilization with 5 stops of compensation (using native lenses).  Then you have 3 axis stabilization with adapted lenses.  Then as I recall, the Z7 crushes the D850 auto focus system with 493 phase detection points vs the D850 with 153 phase detection points.

Really, Neil, how many are needed in video?

Fair question, but the OP said besides video.

Although one really has to wonder why more is better? As one how uses single-point focus almost exclusively, what matters is coverage of the frame, not the total number of points. The D850 is an improvement in that way, but it still has too much margin around the edge, IMO.

:agree:

I learned today that there is a real on Z6 and Z7…
check Nikon's site for more on that.

I also read that many comments all around classify the
D850 as the best body… many are from Canon shooters!.

I'm putting serious thought into moving from my D810 to a Z7.  I watched a video that was talking about the future of the Z lens series and it looks pretty exciting.

Let me know what you did.

So are more and more people moving to the Z mount cameras than traditional DSLRs?
