Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art or Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art for Nikon D750?

I'm on the fence between these two lenses, I have a 50 f1.8 but ready to move to f/1.4.  Any of you sporting one of these?  Something for portraits.

Um, neither of those can be considered portrait lenses, using the common definition of that term. And if you mean partial body shots. If you want a portrait lens, you want the 85 f/1.4, or just get an 85 f/1.8 if your budget doesn't allow. The ART is less expensive than the Nikon, and arguably better.

If you want a 50 f/1.4, rent both the the Sigma and Nikon and experiment as much as possible. The Nikon can suffer from horrible CA, depending upon contrast. I'd never buy it if I were in the market.

The Sigma 35 is quite nice. But it not a portrait lens by any stretch of the imagination. If you want to do environmental stuff, it'll do the trick.

I agree with Gary. 50mm isn’t terrible and I see a lot of folks using them. They just don’t isolate or flatter the model quite as much, but they can make decent portrait lenses. I rented these to figure out how the two focal lengths compare. 35mm is quite a bit different than the 50mm.

If you want a portrait lens that is versatile, perhaps rent a 24-70 or whatever equivalent that’s available for your camera. A lot of folks use that because 70mm is more flattering and isolates better, but then they can use the wider angles for group photos and shots that they want to include the scenery.

Otherwise, the 85 1.8 is a fantastic portrait lens

Well if out of the 2 you have listed, I would go with the 50mm.  I just don't care for the 35mm

Nikon D300: 24-70 2.8 | 70-200 2.8 VR |Sigma 150 2.8 | 50 1.4 | SB-800

Do you have a 85mm?  If so, and you want to shoot portraits, you really need to pick up one.  Ditch the f/1.4's you mentioned here, and pick yourself up a 85mm f/1.8 as suggested by Gary.  Really good lens for the money.

:agree:  85mm f/1.8 is a good choice and won't cost you much more than some of those other options.
