Rattling noise coming from inside Nikon70-200mm

I haven't dropped this lens, but just noticed that when I shack my 70-200mm I can hear something inside faintly rattling around.  Everything works on the lens, and nothing seems to be sticking.  What could this be?

The lens is out of warranty, so sending this back to Nikon is out of the question for something that may not be a problem at this time.  However I don't know that.  I can't even think what could be happening there.  Its not like I shake this all the time, so this could have been a problem from long ago.

I have a 70-200mm and when I shake it, there is nothing but silence.  Any sort of rattling can't be good.  Do you feel any grinding when adjusting the lens?

Any noise is signalling friction and, with time,
it can only get worse.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Yeah, I would get it checked out.  If something is moving around, that could get stuck into something else that is moving and compound the problem.
