Tripod plate doesn't stay put under Nikon D7100

4 years 5 months ago #661727 by Adam Cuffin
One more thing that is bothering me.  You know the plate that  you screw under your camera and that attaches to the ballhead and your tripod? Mine never stays put and will always is slowly moving around when I'm using?

What can I do to prevent this from happening please?

A slippery metal to metal contact may be the cause,
is that so?

Sounds like maybe you are using a substandard ballhead.

He's talking about the mounting plate, which has nothing to do with the ball head itself.

If the plate doesn't have something to act as a washer, then it won't stay secure. Or, if the female part isn't designed for a plate, it won't stay secure.

For example, large lenses come with "feet" for attaching mounting plates. I find that the mounting hole that is also on the lens won't work nearly as well, resulting in the problem you describe.

So: you don't tell us what model of head you're using, or what model of plate, if it came from somewhere else. But you may need to acquire a better plate, or a better head+plate.

Look at the L-brackets from 3 Legged Thing. Maybe that would do the trick for you. Sunway is decent, too.

Get some strips of bicycle innertube rubber or rubber gloves and glue them onto the top of the plate. It will snug up and not slip with that on the plate.

A good solution is the use of a simple double face thin tape.
This solution will not induce any flexibility in the equation but
the plate should stay on the camera — like a bracket that is
the best solution.

A simple plumbing washer would do the trick.

Why so serious?
