Nikon z6 vs Sony a7iii

If you were going to pick up a second camera body, which of these two cameras would you personally get?   Forget about what lenses you already had.  This second body would be for shooting video mostly.

I'm really stuck on the fence here.

Sorry, but that's not very logical.

Cameras used for video (still) require lenses. Are we going to acquire new lenses for whatever camera, since we likely do not already own E-mount or Z-mount lenses? Is that what you mean?

Under what conditions will video be shot?

Do we already use Nikon, or Sony? That matters, since one might reasonably want a system that is already familiar. If one has Nikon lenses, one could use them on a Z6 with the adapter, and get quite nice results.

If one is just going to shoot video using a mirrorless system, one would do well to consider Panasonic IMNSHO.

If you are planning to shoot video I would go with the Nikon z6. Because of this advantages:
Nikon z6 recording 4k is superior in quality
Nikon z6 does not crop at 4k30fps, Sony does crop.
Nikon z6 has touch focus that follows the subject, even in slow motion. Sony doesn't
Nikon z6 can shoot with noise reduction or not. And distortion control, etc.
Nikon z6 has better boost of shadows when recording, Active D Lighting is better than Sony's DRO. Also Sony has a HDR video but I don't see it that great compared with Nikon's Active D-Lighting.

Sony can record in log, but at 8 bits, it's not that great compared when recording flat with Active D Lighting at Extra High on the z6. I sincerely prefer the Z6. But don't get me wrong Sony is great for video as well.

If you are planning for taking photos, Sony a7iii wins at sharpness and focus especially at night. Also the IBIS VR works better for photos when using a Mechanical Shutter.

Hope this helps, if you have other questions I will try to answer them.

Unless I was very impatient, I'd wait for the next Nikon mirrorless release before making the decision. With money to burn though, I'd buy both Z6 and A7iii.....

Why so serious?

I agree, go with the Z6.  If you have handled both cameras, at least for me, the Z6 feels better in the hands.
