Nikon Z50 Yellow Program 30 Free Trial with Free Return

"Say hello to Yellow"

Go an email from Nikon about this.  Looks like they are going to circumvent retailers on this one.  I'm sure their retailers are loving this move by Nikon.

Bold move, but could work.  What do you think?

Its not what I want yet, so I have not interest in a gimmick. You need to pay for it first of course, and reading the fine print prior to a purchase is still important.....

Whatever… not for me!

Light is free… capturing it is not!

But why not offer this on their other cameras?

Maybe that very model is not moving — penetrating the market — fast enough?

They are doing the same thing automobile manufacturers do: capture the hearts and minds of the buying public early, and hopefully create a for-life customer. Buy appealing to entry-level enthusiasts, they may end up with a customer that will stick with Nikon for a long while. Sell a Z50 now, sell a Z? in the future when the buyer wants more/bigger/better/faster/whatever.

It's a perfectly reasonable strategy, and has proven, I think, to be successful. Or they wouldn't be using it.

Yup, also there are many on the fence and currently happy with their dslrs...like me. I'll make the mirrorless move (adding) at some point but I also see myself shooting my current gear all the way....
Again, read the small print.

Didn't Apple do something similar back in the 80s and 90s, by putting their Apple computers into elementary schools at no cost?

Not really the same, the computers were a donation...the Nikons cost will be deferred, or the camera returned.

So, will Nikon offer this program on new cameras coming out, ALL of them? :toocrazy:

Unlikely. The Z6 is a consumer-level camera, and the battleground involves Sony and Canon.

Pros don't really need that kind of incentive.

I'm guessing retailers didn't want much to do with this "program". I doubt Nikon will try it again as I see no great success in the making.
Qualifier: I thought Amazon would be a flash in the pan too....
