You think we'll see a DSLR replacement of the D850 from Nikon?

Or will it be in a mirrorless form?  A friend and I were talking about the Z series today and the subject of the D850 came up and their new D780.

The D850 is delivering most amazing files so far… if they
come out with something even better — and not just by
a iota — I'd sure go for it.

That said, I don't think I will ever move to mirrorless.

Yes, the D850 will get updated when its time.

Why so serious?

Aside from a few poor choices, the Z7 is the mirrorless equivalent of the D850.

Given the staying power of the D850, it won't get updated soon, but it will likely happen. Perhaps not before 2021.

I just moved to the D810, had I had the funds, I would have jumped on the D850.  Such an amazing camera.  Like Gary, I would be surprised to see a replacement for this body before 2021 or even 2022.

I use both the 810 and 850 along with the 3S and 3X.
I remember the film times where a few F version was
expected every ten years or so!

I wouldn't be surprised either way...and you bought a great camera in the D810!
