Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon F on Nikon D800

3 months 2 weeks ago #675999 by Toby J
Man I thought I posted this already.  Anyway, I'm so tempted to get this lens.  I've read the reviews on it and basically have one question.  Compared to the Nikon 14-24mm, are there any disadvantages of the Sigma 14-24mm?

Two words: rent it.

I decided I needed a different 85mm f/1.4 lens (for reasons I shall not recount here).  It really came down to the Nikon 85 f/1.4G or the Sigma 85mm ART.

So I rented both for a weekend shootout. Glad I did.

Turns out I think Nikon primes kinda suck, with respect to certain parameters. Love my new Sigma ART.

I won't say Nikons suck, but I will make the Sigma 14 f/1.8 art lens my next new glass. They're doing quite well!

Why so serious?

Also the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 is legendary. Its negatives are using filters and weight. I'd consider the Sigma on that alone.

Sigma has been making some really good lenses in the last 5 to 10 years. But I would still rent as Gary suggested.  Best way to see if the lens makes sense for YOUR needs.
