d7500 w/ Tamron 16-300 lense wanting a teleconverter 2x

4 years 1 month ago #677702 by [email protected]
Hello, after an unsuccessful search to find an answer, I come to you for help. I am planning an African safari trip. I will be using a Nikon d7500 w/ a Tamron 16-300 lense. I wish to add a teleconverter 2x to double its range.
Hopefully this is not too much of a stupid question but my conundrum is, do I need a Nikon converter or a Tamron converter? Kind of at a lost!!
Thanks for your help!!

Which ever way you will go, it will come to an image quality
drop… a not so negligible drop.

I went for the "right" solutions for me and it was at a cost but
I saved the TC. These solutions allow for great captures where
sharpness and renditions are top level.

Your actual gear, plan and possibly budget will force you to com-
promises you should explore.

G'day mate

Your 16-300 is not designed for use with TC devices ~ I feel that your results will be less that impressive. You will also have the 2-stops light loss each time it is in use ... something that might kill off the sharpness via slow shutter speeds

If you 'must' have a TC, I would suggest the 1,4x TC as it will only cost you 1-stop of exposure and live with the resulting 420mm equivalent images ... and do some cropping once you are back home again

ps- I would also suggest a monopod for use when you are in the 4wd truck out on the reserves, as tripod space can be an issue amongst others on board

Hope this helps

Yup, and many zooms aren't even compatible with a teleconverter.

Why so serious?

Just a thought, I'd suggest you look at that Nikon 200-500 f/5.6 for a pretty economical but fine tele zoom.....

Your D7500 has a pretty good pixel density, do you
really want (need) to go the TC way?

Even finding a compatible TC with that lens, the OP won't be happy.
