Will Nikon warranty transfer...

If the original buyer never sent in registration?  I'm buying a used lens from someone who has not registered it.  Would I still be able to claim the warranty? Or will Nikon check original purchase?

AFAIK, the only way to transfer the warranty is if the original purchaser didn’t register the lens with Nikon and they give you the original warranty paperwork and the original receipt.

Well, at least with Sigma, if it was not registered, all you need is the serial number and place of purchase. I was able to register my 2nd hand 85 f/1.4 ART, no problem.

Get as much information as you can about the original purchase, and go for it.

I think its more important to register the product with Nikon. I've had service done and never did they want to see my receipt.
