Using the prime Nikkor AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8G lens (Wow!)

Aside from the "kit" lenses that came with my D3500 (18-55mm and 70-300mm) my wife and I soon picked up the new 35mm prime lens to add to the lens collection.

It is amazing and darn near "lives" on the D3500!  Incredibly fast, sharp, and will produce beautiful bokeh when opened way up to f/2.8, 2.0, 1.8 ).  I read that with the DX "crop factor" that the 35mm will be the equivalent of 52.5mm on a full frame DSLR, so it is really close to the famous "Nifty Fifty".  Anyone else have this lens?  Check out this photo of one of my wife's rosebush flowers that had bloomed.

Make: NIKON CORPORATION
Model: NIKON D3500
ISO: 100
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter speed: 1/400 sec

It's not a 50mm lens, and it will never be a 50mm lens. Nothing can change the physical characteristics of the lens, which here is 35mm.

The "crop factor" changes the view angle or view area. Nothing more.

That is at most a sales pitch not correlated to any facts.

Thank you... Yeah, I'm still learning with the D3500 (it's our first DSLR). My wife and I have always used those cheap Walmart variety "point 'n shoot" cameras over the years, and finally saw an incredible sale for the Nikon D3500 that came bundled with the 18-55 and 70-300 and we jumped on it.

I remember the old workhorse that I used to have back in the day, the legendary Canon AE-1. But sold it all years and years ago. So, some of the SLR knowledge and the PSAM settings, are coming back, just in digital mode. My wife keeps the D3500 in "Auto" and is fine letting the camera do everything, while I use all different settings while my SLR memory returns.

Thanks again, and I hope to learn a lot more on this forum!

Point & Shoot are the best — maybe not the WM variety though!

I set up my very sophisticated D850 to behave as close as possi-
ble like a P&S for all wildlife photography.
