Question about buying a D300s

13 years 3 weeks ago #38891 by Martin
I have been putting aside some money for the last handful of months for a new Nikon D300s. I give myself XXX amount of play money per month, I have been saving what I don't spend and getting close to having enough to buy my new camera.

I estimate I will have enough next month. I have been really good about sticking with my plan and not stepping over my allocated budget and just buying the camera. I'm so close but was wondering should I be concerned about D300s inventory with what has happened in Japan?

Well that is a hard one to call. You pretty much do the same thing I do for saving, which is the best way in my opinon. Are you purchasing locally or online? If you can get it locally you might see if you can get a shop to let you lay it away for the next month. Some shops will do that, this is especially true in hard times when business is slow. The other danger is that if the supply dries up is the prices may rise on them.

I think that is in the hands of a "higher power". My philosophy is that "if it is meant to be, it will be".
Want to hear God laugh, tell him your plans.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Why don't you wait until Nikon is back on their feet.

They show in stock almost everywhere. Don't be too concerned, a lot in the market are awaiting release of the D400, or whatever it will be called. When you have enough, buy it and enjoy it.

Two weeks ago someone TBoned my car,and I had my D300s in the passenger seat ... needless to say the impact damaged it, and so I'm looking for a replacement. I've seen prices all over the place with various kit options, but I'm awaiting settlement of the ins claim to replace mine.

I think it's a fantastic camera, it's my favorite out of my D2H and D200. I use the video option quite a lot. You can try pricegrabber.com and get some ballpark pricing on a new unit. I will be purchasing new as well, because of the warranty issues.

I would look on line at stores like B&H, or Adorama. Give them a call. I know that at B&H they really give you the scoop.

That D300S is one of my cameras, and I really like it. I use it for all my birding and other wild life shots.
