Viewable frame crops a little when recording video with GH5?

3 years 8 months ago #659454 by Rob Conley
A buddy is letting me use his GH5 and when every I go to record a video, it crops in a little.  Why is that?  Like when I'm framed up at 20mm for example and then I hit record button, it crops in 2mm I would guess.

Is that normal on these cameras?

Yes. It is normal with most cameras. The crop get more extreme as you move up the quality and frame rate ladder. In general, some cameras crop 4K more than 1080P. The higher frame rate also can induce a crop.

That's strange though because the GH5 is specifically advertised as having no crop even in 4K60 (I haven't used one myself, so I can't comment). One suggestion I read is that a slight crop may be caused by the image stabilization. Does it disappear if you turn off image stabilization?
