Hi,
I just bought a SMC Pentax M mount lens. Are the M and K mounts similar?

M mount? You mean M42 screw mount? or Leica M mount?

The lens says "SMC PENTAX-M 1:2.8 ASAHI OPT. CO. JAPAN

I'm using this lens on an Olympus E-1 DSLR and needed an adapter to do so. The PK adapter I found on E-bay works fine.

The lens is a bayonet type.

G'day Mike

Pentax lenses fall into 2 basic categories .... the "A" or "M" or "FA" and there are several other categories as well. This relates to lens design and film-camera body variants re: autofocus etc, verses the original "M42" screw thread and the K-mount bayonet style.

If your lens has a bayonet - it is a K-mount, regardless of the script around the front panel denoting the internal lens design

Hope this helps

It's a K.

It's nice to find a good prime that doesn't cost a small fortune.
