More lighting tests and post play

This is my first pseudo studio type shoot. I tried to get rid of most of the ambient light, and use flash to control the exposure. Again, I was cooking... going back and forth from the BBQ to here to get the shots. So I didn't have much time to make adjustments. I know the green cord sucks... but they're just est shots. Feedback welcomed as always.
Thanks

Well, I've got no beef with the lighting. As for composition, 2, 3, 4, and 7 have the top of the head too near the top of the frame for me.

Cool! I was more interested in the lighting and exposure. So that's good news. Pretty soon I will set sometjhing up and really give it a go (composition, lighting, pose, props etc.). I'll do it when we order pizza or something, so I'm not having to rush back and forth from cooking and shooting!
Thanks, Kelly

My little bit of experience with studio lighting (as an assistant) was that it is a lot like editing. You can fuss endlessly with it, and still not be thrilled. Better to give it a go for a bit, then leave it a while for something more sane. Your cooking chore may be helping you more than you realize.

My only major problem with these is the SF Giants logo on the cap...as a Dodger fan I'm obligated to dislike it

Seriously though, I think your lighting here is really looking good. And I like the pose in #6 a lot, though I might try composing it so that the open space is in front of him instead of behind him. I'm not too sure about the processing on #6 and #7, just not quite my style but you did a good job of getting a distinct effect.

I agree on the processing on those two, and I like the compositions a lot. Some look to me like the face and upper body are well lit but the lower body is just a little lost in the dark in places.

Good point Kelly, I do the same thing, if I work on something too long I reach a point where I'm getting nowhere and coming back for a fresh look later I can sometimes see exactly what to do to make it better.

:judge: Well, I'm just easy...I like them, all! #1 and #3 are my favorites, though I'd prefer that you clone out the reflection of the umbrella in his sunglasses? The one with the cord would fall into my favorites, if you cloned out the ugly green cord that you mentioned.

What you are is so loud, I can't hear a word you say!

very well done! :) The only thing I would change is on the last two I would use the eraser brush at like 30-50% a little over the boys' bodies (or at least faces) to make them stand out a little more but the effect it still there

John, the lighting is spot on... no complaints there... :judge: :judge: :judge:

I agree about 6 & 7 with the processing. Just throws it off .

I agree with CW about the reflection in the sunglasses. A slight adjustment to where he is looking should do the trick and eliminate the need for cloning it out.
