Sigma 35mm 1.4 test

I was very impressed by this lens. The colors are unbelievable, even on RAW, focus is very good(f1.4, not very static son). Here are a couple shots with very minimal RAW conversion and cropping at f1.4 Let me know what do you think?

The image on the left is a bit soft with somewhat muted colors (maybe because of the background light) but the image on the left is sharp with excellent colors. If I were to guess, I'd say the aperture used was different between both shots with the right side image not at F1.4, but stopped down some as there is a lot more in focus than an F1.4 aperture would have. As an aside, you cannot view a Raw file. It is just data. The image on your camera is an interpretation of that data based on the JPEG parameters selected in the camera menu system. On a monitor, the image is interpreted by whatever editing software program you are using.

Thank you Scott, the image in the right was shot at ISO 400, F1.4 and 4000th/sec. I could have done it at ISO100 and 1000th/sec in Aperture mode. Same for the image on the right. The only difference is different exposure comp and lower contrast due to strong back light. Those files are Jpeg out of LR. What I meant by good colors in RAW, was the way I was viewing the CR files as imported in LR and viewed on my laptop.

It's a little soft (seems slightly front focused, when shooting at such a wide aperture it's easy to miss focus slightly), but mainly it's lacking in contrast.

Adjust levels and sharpen a tad and all will be fine.

I agree about the one be a little bit soft.  Any new images you can share? How has your experience been to date with this lens?

Exposure might be bad. Look at the shirt. same shirt in both photo's. Stick's out like a sore thumb.

I like the shallow depth of field, especially the first shot.  I will agree that the shots seem just a tad soft.  I like the back lit feeling in the first one too.
