Tricky shot; sound check

Was at my daughter's concert the other night and saw the music teacher making some adjustments. Lighting was very low, and it was all coming from the other direction. I ended up with some harsh clipping of blacks in the lower right corner.

There are situations where blown highlights are ok, and I can usually recognize them, but in this shot, is it acceptable? I will be getting a new monitor soon, because it's designed more for gaming (Colors are really good, gamma/light is too bright), so I will be able to better tell, but for now, I need a little guidance from y'all!

*Edit* Was the allowed file size decreased?? Its saying 8mb now and I thought it was 15mb before? I save them at 10-15 MB for this board.

One more attempt...

So the lighting dynamics were interesting. I was trying not to blow out the switch board, but also trying not to clip the blacks. Flash was not an option. (Lower left, not right)

The dark tones are too dark.

It's a tough call. I'd blow the highlights in order to get shadow detail, but that doesn't mean it's always the right choice. I rather like this, even though detail is missing at both ends. Overall, the level of contrast and midtones works to tell the story.

I'd call this successful.

N.B. I don't see the point of posting 10MB files. A full size JPG at 80% is more than adequate, and even at 2K on the long edge, at 80% or higher would suffice. You can always post a smaller version and point to a fullsize version somewhere else (Flickr, website, whatever). There are those on PT that do so. Seems to work.

This is a fine shot considering the story-telling, but I always liked to seed details in Black and White shots.

Thanks all. Good points to consider. Amazing snapshot, maybe not so amazing photography. I assumed so, just wanted some feedback.

Thanks Gary. I have recently started decreasing file size. I wasn't sure just how low to go. I am starting to see benefits to using small files in general too.

One more thing, I don't know if this is a technical critique or just a personal preference but I find the top crop a bit too tight. In my case, I always leave a good space between the head and the frame. Maybe just me. lol
What about you?
