Advice for first portrait shoot...

4 years 4 months ago #668771 by Paulverizer
Hello, all.
I wear many hats in the art department, and a photographer is one of them. I've been asked to take portraits for the brass and dept. managers for the website. I've got a booth I'm using for the shots, but have not been exceedingly happy with the look of the shots overall. I'm hoping to get some advice regarding the techniques and processes that perhaps I am not thinking of. Perhaps not enough ambient light? I do NOT have a flash to use, btw.

I've attached the setup and a sample photo. In the sample, the booth lights are off, with just the overhead, underneath and sidelights on. The camera setup is Canon EOS80D, Canon efs 60mm macro. ISO 400, F11, 1/6 sec.

Thank you.

My first suggestion,Paul, would be the lift up
the separation halo.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Is the separation halo the glow that's created by the light on the background?

Yes, Paul, witch ever technique is used, the purpose
is separation… may it be a halo, a beam, etc. :P

I agree. The lighting here is good.
