I think you might have forgotten to set the correct DRL, Kevin,
and that makes this portrait look a tad flat.

DRL = Dynamic Range Levels = black and white points setting.

I have to disagree with you NS. This is the effect we were looking for. This is for his school project.

Check your monitor calibration because literally everyone disagrees with you.

My monitors are greeting you and tell you that they're very
well taken care of… thanks for asking.

Disagree? Everyone? … fine with me, I can live with that. I am
not going to worry that I might be the only man in the world
that hates beers and thus disagreeing with the rest of them.

If there was a certain look you were going for related to a project, it's nice. There is a lot of potential in the image to really make it pop. Now, that may not fit your project but it would make a nicer image to hang on the wall in my opinion. Everyone has different preferences, especially when it comes to Black & White images. I'm sure quite a few think my Black & White stuff has too much contrast and crispness but that's how I render most black & white stuff. one quick side story. I always thought I was heavy with the contrast until I saw an Ansel Adams exhibition in person. I was shocked at the range of contrast in most of his images. That was the thing that impressed me more than anything else about his original prints.
