An Aussie tribute band-- The Desperados ... the Eagle's Show

G'day all

Back in November we went to a local club for an "evening with the Eagles" tribute band.  My partner booked our tickets and knowing that I would be using the Panny FZ-300 camera, chose seats about 1/4 into the seating (for 600 people).  The camera did its stuff, and there are some damn-fine images amongst the collection.  All images are sooc JPG with no PP except size reduction for internet use

1)- Setting the scene--the group on stage

2)- Singer - guitar

3)- the drummer

4)- backing guitar

5)- strumming - note the strings ... some still, others vibrating

As always, feedback welcome

Super photos, these. Very low ISO settings, only 1600. When I did concerts I was at 8000-10000. I got a lot to learn.

G'day mate

We all learn different stuff at different times in our photographic endeavours.  Mine started in the 80s with film and the old Pentax with its 100-300 lens.

I soon discovered that:-
a) I needed to underexpose images - the large amount of 'dark' surrounding the singer / performer / musician / caused facial / costume overexposure ..... thus I drop exposure by minus 0,7 or minus 1,0 EV depending on lighting
b) with film, I found that ISO-1600 would get me 90%+ of images okay for printing to 8" x 12" ..... both colour neg + pos + B&W, all much the same

These days with the Panny FZ- (old 100 / 200) / (current 300) models and their constant aperture zoom lenses, I can zoom from 18mm out to 450mm in dSLR terms and keep F2,8 as my aperture, set EV+/- to minus 0,7; ISO to 1600; WB to daylight for me, others go for Auto WB - and let fly.  I do not worry / obsess about grain / noise these days, as it is part of the process and part of the result

Hope this helps
