On Duty

If you have never been to Costa Rica, you should know we have a distinct lack of parking. Nearly every available area has fellow wearing a vest. The vests are our sign of self-appointed "watchmen" who are there making sure nothing "happens" to your car. This was taken in Puntarenas on the Central
Pacific coast.

In a funny aside the local term for informal guards is "guachiman" which is a mispronunciation of watchman.

Thanks. Adding the the cultural comedy here, there is an expression in Spanish "se le escapó la turtuga" which literally means "he let the turtle escape." It's used to convey distraction or ineptitude. I like how the mural kinda shows a turtle making a break for it. :-)

Wow, I really like this photo. The way you focused on the wall instead of the guy show's you have a real artistic flair. Very, very nice. :)
