My Son

I have been trying to work around a lighting mistake. I shot the flash out of the tunnel and in color he is all red. Tried levels, selective color, turned it b&w, then dodged a bit. Not sure how I feel about the lighting. I know it could be better and it is a bit flat so to speak. But I thought it was a good shot of him enjoying himself and wanted to share a pic of him.

A fun photo does not have to be a "great" photo as long as you enjoy the moment.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

The tubes at my kids' playground are yellow. BW is pretty much the only solution I've found. :) My suggestion would be to continue to brighten the highlights: levels, curves, exposure slider, what ever tool... They are still too dark on your son's face. Don't worry if those highlights in the background blow out (that might even be better?). All that matters is the tones of the main subject.

I like this photo, go with Henry's idea get more light into his face and let anything else blow out.

I agree about the fun shot comments - he looks so natural and happy!
Are you using Photoshop? What method did you use to convert to b&w?

I used the ctr/alt/shift/B to get the sliders to adjust each color (in photoshop). Tried to lighten up some more.

I did dodge his eyes a bit but not sure it helps.

Nice fun shot MJ,looks like he having fun.The exposure tool Henry mentioned is great. This image
calls for Viveza2,just place a 'control point' on the lighter area and darken it,it`s that easy.

That's the method I normally use also.. have you tried a Shadow/Highlight adjustment layer? It can be tricky and a little slider goes a long way in some cases.. I usually have decent results recovering detail in the shadows and toning down bright areas..
