A couple more from me

I shot this last Saturday at a family reunion. I'm anxious to see if the lady likes them. She just came up and asked if I could take a couple of her and her girls.

No, I have never taken any classes on photography or Photoshop. I have heard mixed opinions on the classes at BetterPhoto.

So have I. ;)

I noticed BetterPhoto in your host, is all, and wondered where you learned your skills.

One more question. Did you plan on using flash for fill, or did it pop up in an auto mode?

Some info for those that are curious. The posted images were shot with a Nikon D200 and a 18-200 VR lens set at 90mm. It was ISO 100, 1/60 sec. @ f-7.1 and the flash was set to TTL-BL and -1.3 EV. I processed the raw file in Capture NX2 and finished up in Photoshop.

I used the SB-600 and I almost always use the flash when shooting people outdoors. When I shoot the flash outside on people, I always start out on -1.3 EV on the flash and adjust from there, but that usually works for me. People think I'm nuts using the flash in broad daylight, but I like that catchlight and the fill.

In broad daylight is WHEN you need flash for fill. As a fill your flash controls contrast. ALL digital cameras (and films) have a limit (Dynamic Range) of how much contrast they can handle. Others may look at you weird as most amateurs don't know the reasons behind it.

Your tools, and settings, are right on.

These turned out better than I could have done. Bravo!
