approaching people in the street

i was wondering if any of you do this ?
i was out today and i spotted a stunning lady doing her shopping, i must have looked so stupid i was just stood there thinking to myself i would love to take some shots of her but iv never approached anyone in this way so i l left it .. do you do it and if so what would be your ice breacker to get the conversation going ?

I would take a few anyway. People in public are fair game.

I might then offer to email her a few of the candids while handing her a business card. If she seems friendly ask her to pose for a few shots. If your intent is to get a few good shots that will come through in your approach. Reassure that you are not selling anything.

people are not to good were i live if a stranger starts taking photos of them without asking, if i wanted two black eyes then i would do it without asking but i dont lol

I've done that...just take the pic, then get their email address and tell them I'll send them the pics.

When it comes to shooting candid, I've heard the advice that "it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission." I tend to agree with that. If the subject disapproves of your shot, you always have the option of deleting the image later. However, if you don't take the shot, that moment is lost forever.
