looking for a dlsr for college
Ain't gonna' happen? No matter what you get you're going to want to upgrade in less than a year.last me through a 4 year college in photography.
IMO, cameras are better than you are, so a used Canon xxD will work until you really have figured out what you need.
Good glass is more important & used ones hold their value well. Think about a 24-70 f/2.8; 70-200 f/4 0r 2.8; 85mm f/1.8 or 50 f/1.8 depending on how much $s you have left over.
Tripod. If you can't afford the best, then this is a great inexpensive one: Cheap tripod or cheap head ?
Two batteries, at least 1800 mAh.
Two 2GB CF cards. No! Not one 4GB card. Cards fail, & you don't want to lose everything from one shoot.
Something like this for aux light: Simple "every-day-emergency" location lighting
(Yes, it's not the latest & greatest, but you'll need at least two, & these just don't fail.)
And add this to your kit, too: Need an exposure crutch?
