Photo Contest Give-A-Way!!!

12 years 10 months ago #72871 by Nikonjan
I was truly surprised to see my name as a 2nd place winner in the registration side, I did get in kind of mid way for the photos, then I was on vac. but I do plan to stick around and will get in from the start of the photo contest next time. I have been fairly active here. I can't imagine how many new people registered and that I actually had my name picked.It's not often you can win something and such nice prizes. Congrats to all and keep posting.

We might never know... Everyone not here - raise your hand!

:rofl: :rofl:
Charles strikes again...:rofl: :rofl:

Crystal I can't speak for anyone else, but I plan on sticking around, I've met some really great photographers / people since joining and this site is the best, the people on here are "Real" photographers who try to help whenever and however they can. Even when critiquing a photo (you noticed I said critiquing and not criticizing) they have only offered advice to help folks become a better photographer and or how they might improve their photo and not to tear folks down and make them feel better about themselves as is found on so many other photo sharing sites that I have participated in. Although we may cut up and kid each other a fair amount, when all is said and done, everyone that I have had any interaction with has seemed to have had as a goal to help me (anyone) become a better photographer or work through an issue. Great site, great people, great atmosphere. Kudos to the founders of this site, my hat is off to you and keep up the great work.

Yeh I agree. Still I'd like to see the "winning photos". ;)

By the way you defined it as "sole purpose" logic says none will.

By the tone of your post, the rest of "you people" may not want to.

I've been fairly active over at the micro four thirds forums since I bought my little E-PL1 camera back in January (Yes, I'm that new to photography). Admittedly, this contest had the desired effect of attracting me over here. If the experience is as good as it's been on the other site then I'll gladly stay and contribute here as well. If not, the I hope I've helped make it a better place by whatever input I did make.

Now you have the rest of this wonderful forum to explore too. :D ;)

I know I posted a relatively large number of photos, but I did try to limit it to ones that I took recently, and were of better than average quality. I hope people found some of them to be memorable.

I haven't seen you around the forum.

Pay attention, sleepy head. :thumbsup: Just kidding. 172 posts thus far for a relative newcomer is not bad. The major has made some good input.

On this thread? I wasn't hanging about here. :)

Well I joined up because of Facebook - found PT on there. There is a HUGE amount of info on here which is really useful, and a host of great people & fantastic images to inspire, so I'll be sticking around - although I must set aside more time for my photos (got a few - like 500) to go through & process the better ones & to read the books that Fil bought for me for my birthday (& the Scott Kelby book on Elements he bought me LAST birthday). You get hooked into threads on here, and on Facebook & then the night is gone! :side: :side: :rofl: :rofl: :pinch:

Taking a break from the Ir site for now[it`s slow now],planning on sticking around.What I like about this site is the constant activity of the forum with any topic you can think of.A lot of very knowledgeable photogs here.Plus I get to introduce Ir and maybe convert a few who think Ir is just a passing fad.I`m a Ir specialist who does visible light wildlife,my Ir images are more colorful.My software is Nik plugins and Onone Photo Tools[bought it for 'just' one preset...digital fill flash...worth the price alone]Photo Tools is used mostly on my visible light images...awesome plugin!

Glad you're hanging around Robbie..
I would definitely like to try some digital IR stuff.. did the IR film thing years ago - I still have an unopened roll of Kodak IR in my old Pentax K-1000 bag of goodies.. If people call IR a "fad" it's a fad that's lasted for many, many years. Anyway, about IR with a digicam - is it necessary to convert a camera to IR only or will just adding the IR filter produce results?
I have PhotoTools 2.0 Basic plugin - love it..

Adding the 'ir' filter will produce results but you will have to use a tripod and compose before you press the shutter.Not all cameras makes good Ir images,the higher quality image cameras are optimized for visible light makes for very poor ir images.Some of those 'old' point and shoots are excellent ir shooters and are very cheap.Posting images without processing doesn`t help in your creative process.Here is a link to process your images...
irphotocom.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=processing
You will hear about 'channel swap' as though it a magical formula,so here goes...
Open image in Photoshop....
Channel mixer..Red Channel
Red =0
Blue=100
Blue Channel
Red 100
Blue=0
ok
That should gives you blue sky and white clouds.More colors....
Image/adjust/Color Balance..play around until you
get the colors you wanted
If you close but not there
Hue/Saturation...try the individual color channels
Try your plugins,my favs are Nik plugins.
