Thanks to this thread, I now want to try Nikon. Unfortunately, I can't afford a new camera as of yet. Besides, Canon is all I can get in this small town. I won't buy something like that online. I would have to be holding it in my hand before I hand over that kind of money.
Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.

No Ninja I don't think you're even close to my age! Yes people still use film. I do more B&W than color, it gives me the option to do darkroom work, and I can always go digital from film. I was reading how to make digital negatives so might try that one of these days.

Rob I have the same Konica, mine's an autoreflex T. Just finished up a roll of film in it.

And Ninja, people are making tintypes too.

No I bought the body and then got a 135 mm lens.The camera that I've had the longest is my Ricoh Singlex that had one run-in too many w/a concrete floor (still usable but has seen better days). I have a Konica rangefinder but something jammed and I haven't gotten it repaired - or tried to repair it myself. Have replaced a mirror bumper etc. on the Ricoh but not tried any major repairs myself. So just recently got a Voigtlander rangefinder, it's a beauty.

Just stumbled upon this wiki page looking up info on th eEOS Rebel and found the following data. The references seems valid.

Between 2006 and 2008, Canon's market share in DSLR cameras decreased from nearly 50% worldwide to near-parity with Nikon DSLRs, at 38% and 37%, respectively.[1] While in 2010, Canon rose to a share of 44.5% in the DSLR market, jumping far ahead of Nikon's 29.8% and Sony's 11.9%, becoming the worldwide leader of DSLR manufacturers [2]

Canon is advertising all over the place... every time I turn on TV you see some Canon commercial, Nikon might need to bump up there mojo to keep Canon in sight.
