For a film newbie, any recommendations on film brands, processing labs, etc?

I've used both Reala and Velvia and find both to be excellent landscape films. also if you can find AGFA 50 or 100 speed print films these have excellent color rendition and fine grain. For a High speed print film I highly recommend FUJI 800 PRO PRESS film for it's fine grain(for the speed) and extra stops of exposure in low light situations.Below is a shot with the 800 Fuji I took at sunset

And a shot with the AGFA 50 speed print film

and a shot with REALA print film from a trip to Alaska

Rob, I would really like to try that 800 speed you recommended for night time snowfall situations.

Also, McBeth, I dont have any Velvia in my galleries yet, but i have quite a bit of Fuji Superia Reala 100 in my galleries... The films i used are labeled under the individual photos. Keep in mind too that they are low res scans of 4x6 prints from a flatbed scanner so they will be sharper and better quality when you get them back from development.

I'm starting to think that velvia 50 might work well with my old 24mm vivitar 2.8 which always seems to lack saturation and contrast. As for my Nikkor lenses like the 50mm f1.8 Ai-s, and 35-70mm f2.8D, and even the 80-200mm 4.5 .....Reala 100 will probably be the go to film. I'm thinking if I need something faster, for now, I'll just use my D70....still love that body.

I'm just saying the lens has a little to do with it too, doesn't it? BTW, the 35-70mm manual focus kit lens that came with the FM10 is now a doorstop. Looking at the reviews for it and knowing that I have a small collection of Nikkor lenses that are of better quality prevents me from even using the kit lens.

It is what it is.
