What is pixel peeping?

I've been reading some threads and post here and see this term brought up a number of times. What does it mean?

Good question. My definition is looking at a image at an almost microscopical (NWA) level. I sometimes do this to see if editing has been done to a photo.

Cancel the New Word Alert (NWA) apprently my spell checker likes the word "microscopical ". Go figure :woohoo:

It's when you blow up the image to 100% or more, to examine individual pixels on your screen.

and, a pixel peeper.........

a) A photography n00b who erroneously believes that the quality of a digital camera is determined solely by the number of megapixels.

b) Insecure troll who frequents digital camera forums to religiously proclaim how his/her camera pixel count is greater than yours.

c) Wanna be photographer who debates about pixel count all day but doesn't have the talent to take a half-decent photograph.

Why so serious?

It's what you do if you wanna be disappointed in expensive lenses.

Are you getting close to having enough material for a new Merriam-Webster-Funk & Richardson dictionary yet?

It is someone who looks at photos above 100% usually in the 200% range and comments how bad the detail is for that camera or lens. Pixel Peepers are never satisfied with any camera or lens because the photo didnt look good past it original size.
