What is considered professional camera equipment?

A Canon 500d with a couple of enthusiasts lenses does not make me a pro, but in the hands of my teacher and mentor - it is a superb piece of kit.

When I rent an L series lens and put my battery grip on and a flashgun, and carry round a tripod and a shoot through umbrella - then I'm a pro - everyone says so at the garden parties, so it must be true

Well as was said in the hands of a Pro any camera can be professional equipment. Being professional just means you get consistent results. Amateurs results as a general rule will vary even with top of the line equipment. So in reality as usual the tools are only as good as the end user.

Yeh I said before a pro can make a crappy camera take an OK picture. But pro equipment has all the extra stuff Pros know how to use and/or need.

The opposite is also true. A amateur can make a pro camera suck big time.

Just ask all those dentists with Leica M9 and $3000USD lenses...
