Wife and I are talking about heading to Paris in January. Have some questions about photo tours.

First off any recommended photo tours in Paris?

Second would any of you know how are the French people about camera equipment in historic churches?

Third: are camera's permitted Louvre?

When out of country do you still need model release forms of people you photograph? Even if you hope to have photos published? Or the laws don't apply when photo taken out of country?

Be respectful and you will have no issues with cameras and yes you can bring your camera in the Louvre.

Good question on the model release form. I don't know.

Maybe the photo tour guide that you decide on can answer some of it. When my husband went on a Harley trip I did notice that some of the art (ex Mona Lisa) was covered with glass so with his p&s he got quite a bit of glare on several pictures. I don't know if that helps but thought I would throw it out.
Oh yeah congrats on your trip!

You can photograph in the Louvre, and the Musee' d'Orsay ( Impressionist Museum, a must see). Always keep an eye out for ushers if you use anything for support (shouldn't, anyway), and don't use flash, or they'll be all over you. Same in churches: Be respectful in small churches if services are being held, and don't use flash. A very useful piece of equipment is a belt pouch sold by Manfrotto, that supports the foot of a monopod, giving you a some steadiness without deploying it on the floor, which may bring the constabulary down on you. In churches like Nore Dame, you can pretty much shoot at will. Be sure to use a spot meter on the stained glass: it is a LOT brighter than you think, and you might try some HDR sequences for it. Plan to go to the Eiffel Tower between 11pm and 12am. for some good light show photo ops. Check some of the bridges for good night landscape shots. Walk around the Marais quarter (Place des Vosge!) for some good streeet shot ops.
Enjoy your trip!:)

No tripods in many churches, flashes will depend on what you are shooting. Dark church with people in there worshiping, I don't think they will care for a bright flash going off interrupting their praying.

They are pretty tolerant to a point in Paris, they are more likely to pounce on someone for wearing a hat in a church rather than using a camera, you will see flashes going off but they are ignorant people who dont respect others wishe. use an iso around 800 if possible with a wide aperture.
In the museums there are people posted around to watch over you, I got stopped taking a photo even without flash so you just have to pick your moments, some museums are more tolerant than others, if you refrain from using flash then you are less likely to be noticed.
Enjoy your trip Paris is my favourite city been there over 7 times.

We went to Milan, Naples and Sicily for a 3 week vacation last year. All I can say is that this was the best vacation ever. Next year we would like to go to Budapest and and small town called Komlo in Hungary.

We head to Europe once a year. I would highly recommended to keep a key on all your gear. Even in the hotels. When on the street, keep your money in front pockets and a good grip on your camera. The city of love is known for simple street crime.
