do you let clients pick their own pictures for weddings?

I have not photographed a wedding, but I am curious how it works. Does the bride/groom choose their photos? or does the photographer pick the ones they want to give to the bride?

Customer pays - customer picks. The way you present them can influence their judgement to some extent.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Alright, thanks.

I have another question...say the photographer takes 800 pics full wedding day. Do you show all 800 to the client? That's a lot to go through...for the client.

And you probably need to do some PP on them. Last night I went through about 450 shots, threw out a few, did solid editing on some and minimal editing on others. They can be organized in "groups" so that a client can compare them and select the "best of the bunch". They may even select one of Aunt Bertha even if it's not "perfect" to keep the peace and remember her presence. The client knows who all these people are and may insist that certain ones be included.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Client picks their own photos. You go through all the ones you shot and delete the poor ones (blurry, bad exposure etc..) Then you show the client the good photos. It's easier for everyone to just upload the photos to a site for proofing.

It is a lot, but remember you are getting paid to take those shots, to edit those shots and present them in any means to the client.

:agree: You should absolutely do this.

Also, if you haven't already shot the wedding, it's a good idea to talk with the couple about a shot list. There are certain must-have shots for weddings. This varies a little bit depending on the couple, but almost invariably involves moments like the cake cutting, first dance, bouquet toss, garter toss, placing rings on fingers, kiss at the end of the ceremony, etc., etc., etc.

The other shots you take before, during and after the ceremony and reception are important because they chronicle the event and capture priceless memories. But compared to the must-have shots on the shot list, those other shots are the icing on the cake.

:agree: With family traveling from all over the country, the bride had a list of "people combinations" prepared for photos. That took a bit longer but no one was missed.

I take around 1500/2000 photos at a wedding, once I get home I will delete anything I think is useless, then I will edit whats left, then I go through them again and pick what I believe are the best and tell the story of the day, this will be around 600/800 photos for the bride and groom to choose from, it works for me and had no complaints from any couples so far.  :toocrazy: :toocrazy: :toocrazy:
