Work of Art (w/a little photography thrown in)

On the series 'Work of Art - The Next Great Artist' on Bravo one of the judges this week was Mary Ellen Mark. If you're not familiar with her photos, just google her name and you should find her website and info. about her work. She's done a lot of what I'd call real life portraits, and street photography.

A couple of the artists competing in the show interestingly too used photos to create their art. And if you want to see what an art critique is like, Bravo usually reruns the episodes and has them online - whew, those are some tough judges! Makes me glad I wasn't an art major in college, I don't think I'd have wanted to go thru an art crit!

I like that show also.
They just started their new season. It's an interesting show/competition.

A photo is more than just a picture. It is a moment captured in time.

Anybody else watch this week's episode? Two of the teams seemed to choose ideas that got away from 'motion' which could have been so interesting I'd think. At least the 'playground' group that won got motion in their artworks. Even though the artist who was eliminated did something too similar to what she'd done the week before, I thought the one that least captured motion was the one with a basket that was supposed to represent NY and taxis and street signs, and a hand that was supposed to be spinning.

I find it interesting the way this season a few of the artists are using photography to help develop their final piece of art.

Missed this week's episode but, I'll catch it when it's repeated I'm sure.

I looked in my guide last night under Bravo and didn't see show. What is the day and time it airs? Thank you

It's been on Wednesday nights at 9:00 pm Eastern, then rerun at midnight maybe? (which makes it I guess 9 Pacific). It's only the second week of the competition. Bravo has episodes of some of their shows online.

I felt bad though for the contestant who got eliminated because she started to sob during the critique, but she wasn't feeling well so that may have been why. I suppose health-wise maybe it was just as well she was the one to go home.

I finally got a chance to watch this episode. I agree with you icepics. I don't think she was strong enough to handle this kind of competition, given her health issues. It was probably best that she went home.

Probably so. The critiques are supposedly comparable to college art degree level critiques - whew, I'm glad I wasn't an art major! The judge who is an art critic said in his blog that since being on the show last time he gets nasty comments on his Facebook page etc. Tough for the contestants and not so easy for the judges either I guess.

I suppose you're right.
