Wonderful.. you will love it! Word of advice: if you see a bunch of cars pulled over, most likely a tourist is being 'unwise' around some wildlife. When driving through there on our honeymoon many years ago, we ran into that situation: A HUGE bull elk was breaking the velvet off his antlers on a tree not far from the road. A man with a camera was standing 5 FEET away from that elk trying to get a photo.

Having been there several times we've seen people trying to pet the buffalo, trying to see how close they could get to a mama moose with calves... in short, the wildlife are NOT TAME. ;)

You will come back with some excellent photos and memories of a great experience I'm sure!

I've heard that a cheap alternative to bear spray is the wasp spray that you can spray from a long distance away. The only problem I can think of with that is maybe blinding the bear permanently.

I just looked that up. :catfight: They don't recommend it. Bear spray shoots like a fog so you don't have to be very accurate. You would have to be a good shot when using wasp spray and who wants to take the chance on that! :pinch:

I want a good wide angle lens and more money for photo trips.

Better yet, cover your husband in honey. So he doesn't go after you.

Just remember you don't have to outrun the bear, just the people you're with.

stevenjdonley wrote: Might be able to, but it's illegal to buy in some states! Depending on how you are getting there, I believe it was a Sierra Trading Post in Cody that sold it, which is right outside the east side of the park.

Do have a great time, I hope to go back there next summer to do some more hiking. I just loved getting out in the woods away from the crowds!

Oh, one more thing that many people don't think about. DON'T let you camera stay in the steam from the hot springs/geysers for any period of time. It has sulfuric acid in it which can destroy the electronics and coatings. They are very bad for the camera!

Thank you. I wouldn't have thought about the sulfuric acid in the hot springs.

Shadowfixer1 wrote: Check the moon phase for when you are there. If you're lucky you will have a full moon. The steam vents coming in from West Yellowstone make a cool pic under a full moon. Very eerie looking.

Yea, I was just dicussing this with my husband yesterday. Trying to plan out sleeping, as I know I won't be sleeping much. lol I wouldn't mind getting some shots at night if the moon gives off enough light.

Yes it is. Over the weekend, we ended up doing a little more research on hotels. So we upgraded our hotel room to have a living room and kitchen. We are staying a week, might as well be as comfortable as we can. Just not sure how long we will actually be in the hotel room. lol

 I doubt any of that will happen during that week. I will either be too much into photographer mode or asleep. lol
