Vegas trip

So I plan to go to Vegas this summer. I would like to take pictures but not the typical tourist pictures. I don't mind shooting anything on the strip, but can anyone give me ideas of how can take pictures and them not look like the typical tourist pictures?

I went a couple of times and ended up not taking much. You're not allowed to shoot inside which is really where some of the interesting stuff is, and outside is pretty well covered. Try a really wide angle lens take things in as well as exaggerate things (such is the nature of Vegas). There might be some interesting street stuff too as you have such a diversity of people being uninhibited. If you carry a tripod then you might get some non-tourist type of long exposures too.
If you want to take a day trip out to Hoover damn and the lake. Hoover damn is worth seeing even if you don't get "original" pics.

When you are out on the strip, stand to the side and take it all in. Get past the excitement of being there. You know the tourist kind of excitement and get into the photographer mode. Get down low, get up high. If you take pictures of any fountain displays, use a tripod for long exposure.

You don't say how long you will be there. Lake Mead is close, the dam and river offer a lot of opportunities. Also, Red Rock canyon isn't far. Also, Death Valley is about 140 miles, a mere day trip....:)

Why so serious?
